Sunday Brunch Series 13: New Recipes & Weekend Favorites

img 35455 1Welcome to On Sundays We Brunch — Series Twelve. I hope this becomes a relaxed time for us to talk about life as if we were sharing a table at brunch, swapping favorite finds: articles, recipes, products, books, and little bursts of inspiration.

Brunch is my favorite meal because the mood is light, the day is wide open afterward, and almost any food fits the bill — often with a glass of champagne. Urban Dictionary calls it “midday lunchin’ acting a fool in the mid-morning to lunch time,” which feels perfectly apt.

Grab a mimosa, pull up a chair, and let’s chat. If anyone wants to act a fool, I’m game.

img 35455 2 scaledThere’s a shop in Des Moines with an entire table dedicated to ranch dressing products. Could anything be more Midwestern? I nearly bought a ranch bib because I tend to spill on myself and I love ranch — a perfect match, except it was sized for a small child.

Is anyone else desperate for spring? I’m ready to come out of hibernation, get outside, and most of all, wander the farmer’s market!

THE BEST THING I ATE ALL WEEK:

img 35455 9 scaledI tried a new sushi restaurant this week and it delivered. I finally found a close version of my all-time favorite roll — shrimp tempura inside with seared filet mignon on top. It’s heavenly and I hadn’t had it in years. The restaurant’s take was close enough to make it my new go-to sushi spot.

RECIPES I’M LOVING:

  • Port Wine Cheese Log
  • Vegan Fluffernutter Cookies
  • Spicy Korean Pork Belly Bao Bun
  • Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce
  • Brownie Oatmeal with Banana Ice Cream
  • Slow Cooker Honey-Chipotle Meatballs
  • Vegan Collard Green Wraps
  • Khachapuri (Georgian Cheese Bread)
  • Strawberry Rhubarb Streusel Shortcake
  • Garlic Beef and Broccoli Noodles

WHAT’S COMING NEXT WEEK:

Next week I’ll share a Guinness beef stew in time for St. Patrick’s Day, beer bread, another squash recipe before spring arrives, a mushroom croque monsieur, and my favorite monster cookies. I’ll also finally recap my trip to Provence. Join me next Sunday for another On Sundays We Brunch installment.
