Bakerella: 2009 Bloggies Finalist for Food Blog

What just happened? I was stunned to discover I’d been nominated for a Bloggies award. I hadn’t known much about the Bloggies until I received a thoughtful message from Makes & Takes informing me of the nomination. To everyone who nominated or voted for me: thank you. I’m genuinely surprised and thrilled—this recognition means a great deal.

About the Bloggies nomination

The Bloggies are annual awards that recognize outstanding blogs across many categories. Being listed among the finalists is an honor, and it’s exciting to see so many talented food writers and creators represented. I’m especially grateful to the community that supported this nomination and took the time to share their encouragement.

2009 Bloggies Best Food Blog Finalists

The Pioneer Woman Cooks – If you love approachable, comforting recipes and a confident, engaging voice, The Pioneer Woman is a powerhouse. The blog combines practical cooking advice with warm, narrative storytelling, and it’s easy to see why readers adore it.

Smitten Kitchen – Smitten Kitchen brings clever home-cooking ideas and delightful writing to the table. The blog’s personality and attention to detail make it a favorite for people who enjoy both reliable recipes and a friendly, conversational tone.

Chocolate & Zucchini – Chocolate & Zucchini is an excellent pick for anyone passionate about culinary culture and refined, flavorful recipes. Cotilde’s work focuses on the pleasures of food, often with thoughtful context and beautiful presentation.

Cake Wrecks – Cake Wrecks takes a humorous approach to food blogs by spotlighting the most delightfully disastrous cakes. It’s a reminder that food culture includes both the polished and the wonderfully imperfect.

Bakerella – And then there’s my own blog. I consider myself the underdog among these finalists, but if you enjoy playful, sweet treats and approachable dessert ideas, I’d be honored to have your vote. My goal has always been to inspire home bakers to try creative projects with simple techniques and straightforward instructions.

Funny side note: I’m glad I kept my mii cupcake in the freezer—it turned out to be just the prop I needed for this exciting moment.
