Dalgona coffee has been trending, but if you prefer matcha, try this Dalgona matcha latte — creamy, fun, delicious, and eggless. You can make a café-style matcha latte right at home.

I enjoy coffee, but sometimes the caffeine doesn’t agree with me, so I swapped to a dalgona matcha latte instead. It feels like a luxurious matcha drink from your favorite café, but made easily at home. It’s that good.

If you’d rather have coffee, a Dalgona coffee is a great alternative. Don’t forget to pair your matcha with pastries such as chocolate chip scones or banana nut bread to complete the treat.
Below are helpful tips and FAQs to make a silky, stable Dalgona matcha latte.
What is Dalgona matcha latte?

The idea is similar to Dalgona coffee: a concentrated, whipped topping sits over hot or cold milk. Because the matcha is whipped with a foaming agent until thick, it creates a latte-like mouthfeel so you can enjoy a “latte” at home without espresso equipment.
What is aquafaba and why use it?

Aquafaba is the starchy liquid from canned chickpeas and is commonly used as an egg white substitute in vegan recipes. You can also reserve the cooking liquid from light-colored beans or homemade cooked chickpeas, though canned aquafaba is often thicker.

Matcha powder won’t whip into a stable foam on its own, so a foaming agent is needed. Egg whites or aquafaba provide that airy, glossy structure. If you prefer to avoid raw eggs, aquafaba is a great vegan option. After you drain the chickpeas, use the remaining beans to make a simple hummus.
How long to whisk the aquafaba?
Whisk aquafaba with sugar until the mixture turns opaque, glossy, and holds a firm peak. With vigorous hand whisking this usually takes about 5–7 minutes; using a hand mixer or immersion blender will speed things up for multiple servings.
Add sugar to the aquafaba liquid and whisk to dissolve.
After a few minutes of whisking…
After vigorous whisking, the aquafaba becomes glossy with firm peaks.
Do I have to use matcha powder?
Use at least culinary grade matcha.
Yes — brewed green tea won’t deliver the same color, texture, or flavor. Matcha powder blends smoothly into the whipped aquafaba and gives the vivid green color and concentrated flavor you want in this drink. For best results, choose culinary-grade matcha or better for vibrancy and taste.

Can I substitute ingredients?

Aside from aquafaba and matcha, you can adapt other ingredients to taste. Common swaps include using nut or plant-based milks to make the drink dairy-free, or substituting honey or another liquid sweetener instead of granulated sugar. Adjust sweetness and milk type to your preference.
