Ooey gooey chocolate chip peanut butter bars…

The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars
These chocolate chip peanut butter bars are one of the most popular recipes on the blog — and for good reason. They combine soft, gooey peanut butter with melty chocolate for a dessert that reminds you of a chocolate chip cookie crossed with a Reese’s cup.
They’re an ideal party treat because they travel well, please a variety of eaters (vegans and omnivores alike), and usually disappear fast. The texture is delightfully chewy and peanut-butter rich, with warm pockets of chocolate in every bite.
There’s also a brownie version if you prefer something fudgier!
Watch the video above to see how the peanut butter bars are made.

Homemade Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars
With peanut butter and chocolate, it’s no surprise these bars are irresistible. The recipe began as an adaptation of vegan peanut butter cookies and has been refined over time to improve texture and flavor.
The current version includes a keto-friendly option so more people can enjoy them. They’re straightforward to prepare and yield reliably gooey, satisfying bars every time.

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Bars
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup applesauceor coconutmilk yogurt
- 1 cup peanut butteror allergy-friendly alternative
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp flour(spelt, white, sorghum, oat, almond, or buckwheat) — about 50 g
- 2/3 cup granulated sugaror xylitol
- 1/4 cup chocolate chipsoptional
- Up to 2 tbsp milk of choiceonly if needed
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch pan or line it with parchment. If your peanut butter is stiff, warm it gently until stirrable, then mix in the applesauce and vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine the baking soda, salt, flour, sugar, and chocolate chips. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir — at first the mixture will look dry. Break up the peanut butter as you mix and scrape the bowl as needed. If necessary, add up to 2 tablespoons of milk a little at a time; the batter should become gooey like cookie dough but not runny. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and smooth the top (press parchment on top to press evenly, then remove). Press a few chocolate chips into the surface if you like. Bake 10 minutes. The top will look set but the center will still be underbaked; let the bars cool for at least 20 minutes to firm up. They continue to set more overnight.
